WHEN: Jan. 13 to Sept. 1, 2020 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday

WHERE: Downtown Sacramento: From Broadway to I-5 to 16th Street / Sproule Avenue / Basler Street to Alhambra Boulevard

DETAILS:  Crews will replace 96 traffic signal cabinets and install fiber optics to improve the City’s traffic management system. Each signal replacement will take up to three hours to complete. One lane next to the traffic signal cabinet will be closed for construction vehicles during that time. The City of Sacramento received federal funding to improve and update the traffic signals in downtown.

At the same time, the City is upgrading 191 intersections in the downtown area. These improvements, funded by a grant, include upgrading to new energy efficient traffic signal displays, and providing new LED pedestrian countdown displays at approximately 191 intersections throughout the downtown area. Each intersection will take between one and three hours to complete, and one lane will be closed next to the work area for construction vehicles.

All intersections in the downtown area will remain open during the construction of both parts of the project.

Rio Linda Boulevard Bridge Replacement & Main Avenue Realignment Project

June 24, 2019 through December 1, 2020

In and around the intersection of Main Avenue/Rio Linda Boulevard

The project will construct a new bridge to replace the existing structurally deficient bridge. Magpie creek and Main Avenue will both be shifted to the south to create a “squared up” intersection.  The intersection will also be widened to accommodate dedicated turn pockets, bike lanes, and sidewalks/ramps.

Construction is anticipated to last for two construction seasons with completion in late 2020.

Main Avenue and Rio Linda Boulevard will both maintain one lane in each direction during construction (as it exists today). Cyclists and Pedestrians using the Sacramento Northern Bike Trail will be detoured onto Rio Linda Boulevard for several months in the early stages of the work, so the creek can be realigned, and the existing bike/pedestrian bridge can be removed making way for the new bridge and creek alignment.
