DOWNTOWN TRAFFIC SIGNAL CABINET AND SIGNAL HEAD REPLACEMENT PROJECT
WHEN: Jan. 13 to Sept. 1, 2020 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday
WHERE: Downtown Sacramento: From Broadway to I-5 to 16th Street / Sproule Avenue / Basler Street to Alhambra Boulevard
DETAILS: Crews will replace 96 traffic signal cabinets and install fiber optics to improve the City’s traffic management system. While a traffic signal cabinet is replaced, the traffic signal and pedestrian displays at the intersection will be turned off and will vehicles must treat the intersection as a four-way stop.
Each signal replacement will take up to three hours to complete. One lane next to the traffic signal cabinet will be closed for construction vehicles during that time. The City of Sacramento received federal funding to improve and update the traffic signals in downtown.
At the same time, the City is upgrading 191 intersections in the downtown area. These improvements, funded by a grant, include upgrading to new energy efficient traffic signal displays, and providing new LED pedestrian countdown displays at approximately 191 intersections throughout the downtown area. Each intersection will take between one and three hours to complete, and one lane will be closed next to the work area for construction vehicles.
All intersections in the downtown area will remain open during the construction of both parts of the project.
